Manage units

Under Settings → Units you manage the units of measure you state quantities in on your documents — Piece, Hour, Kilogram and so on. The list applies to your whole workspace — to every app that uses units.

Your workspace starts with ten system units: piece, hour, day, month, kilogram, gram, litre, metre, square metre and package. Piece is the default. The names are in the language of the country in your company details when UNENO offers it, otherwise in English.

ColumnMeaning
NameHow the unit appears on documents. Default marks the unit pre-selected on new lines — there is always exactly one. Clicking the name opens the unit.
UNECE codeThe international code behind it, with its official name — for example HUR · Hour.
Used inHow many products use this unit — archived ones included —, for example 2 products. Clicking it opens the product list filtered by this unit; — means none.

On a phone the code sits under the name.

Every unit has two sides: the name you choose, which appears on your documents, and the UNECE code behind it — an internationally agreed code under UN/ECE Recommendation 20 that the e-invoice carries instead of the name. That way your customer’s software reads hrs, Hour and Stunde the same — as HUR.

  1. Click Add unit.

  2. Fill in the fields:

    FieldWhat to enter
Name *How the unit appears on documents, for example hrs or Flat fee — up to 50 characters.
UNECE code *The matching code from the list — each row shows the code and its official name, for example HUR · Hour; the search finds both. You choose from 28 common units for count, time, weight, volume, length, area and energy.
Use as the default unitPre-selected on new document lines. Only one unit can be the default.
  3. Click Add unit — the button turns on as soon as you’ve entered something.

The window opens at the right edge. If you’ve already entered something and close it, UNENO asks Discard your changes?

You see Unit “…” added. The new unit is in the choice on your products and documents right away.

  • Each name only once. If the name already exists — even in different capitals — you see A unit with this name already exists.
  • Several names for one standard unit are fine. You can add Hour and Consulting hour, for example — both go into the e-invoice as HUR.

Click the unit’s name — or ⋮ → Edit on the row —, change the fields and click Save changes. You see Unit “…” updated.

You can rename system units — Piece to pcs, say — but their UNECE code stays fixed:

Change the default: open the unit that should become the default and tick Use as the default unit. The previous default loses its mark automatically. On the default unit itself the tick is fixed — below it you read To change the default, make another unit the default.

Click ⋮ → Delete on the row. UNENO asks Delete unit? — confirm with Delete. This can’t be undone.

You can’t delete:

  • system units — but you can rename them.
  • the default unit — make another unit the default first.
  • a unit that products still use — archived ones included. Instead of the question you then see Unit still in use, for example ““Box” is set on 3 products and can’t be deleted. Give them another unit first.” Show products opens the product list filtered by this unit.

System units and the default unit have no Delete in the menu.

  • Every line saves its unit — name and code. If you rename or delete a unit, documents you’ve already saved stay as they are.
  • New lines get the unit of the chosen product, otherwise the default unit.
