Set up e-invoicing (France)

  1. Open Settings → Documents settings → Invoices & quotes.

  2. Switch on Electronic invoicing (Factur-X) and click Save changes.

From now on, every invoice you issue gets the right format — Factur-X or PDF, depending on the customer. Invoices already issued stay as they are.

An e-invoice is only issued once every required detail is there — otherwise UNENO tells you what’s missing when you issue. Best to complete them beforehand:

DetailWhere to maintain it
Company name, address (street, postcode, city, country)Company details in your account
Your SIREN — mandatory in FranceCompany details in your account
Your VAT number, if you have one — it must end with your SIRENCompany details in your account
The customer’s name and full billing addresson the customer
The customer’s SIREN — mandatory for a French business customeron the customer
A payment termin the invoice — prefilled with your Default payment term

If No due date is selected as the Default payment term, new invoices have no payment term — then enter it in each e-invoice yourself, or pick a term there.

In France, a business e-invoice states the seller’s and the buyer’s SIREN. For an organization in France, the Registration number field is therefore called SIREN:

  1. Under Customers, click ⋮ → Edit on the customer — or create them.

  2. Choose Organization as the Type and France as the Country. The field is then called SIREN.

  3. Enter the 9 digits of the SIREN, for example 200 000 008.

  4. Click Save changes.

  • The SIREN is checked: 9 digits with their check digit. Otherwise you see A SIREN has 9 digits, e.g. 100 000 009 — please check it.
  • VAT number and SIREN go together: a French VAT number ends with the SIREN. If they don’t match, you see This VAT number belongs to another SIREN — a French VAT number ends with the SIREN.

Both are already set up to fit — good to know what the e-invoice makes of them:

  • Units: each unit has a UNECE code behind it, which goes into the e-invoice — more under Units.
  • Tax rates: if a line carries no VAT, the e-invoice needs the reason — pick a 0% rate with a reason for it, see Taxes.
