Create, edit or delete a role

  1. Open Members & Roles → Roles & Permissions and click Create role.

  2. Under Role name, enter a name that says what the role is for — for example Bookkeeper.

  3. Tick the boxes in the grid. Each row is an area (for example Customers or Invoices), each column an action: View, Create, Update, Delete and, for invoices, Cancel. An empty cell means the action doesn’t exist for that area.

  4. Click Save role at the bottom of the card. You’re back on the list and see Role created.

What each permission allows is listed under Permissions in detail.

  • Clicking a column heading — View, say — sets or clears that action for every area.
  • The box in the “All” column sets or clears every action for one area.
  • The “All” heading sets or clears everything.

Click the role’s name on the list (or ⋮ → Edit) and change the name or the boxes. At the bottom of the card the page counts what you’ve changed:

  • Save changes applies everything. You’re back on the list and see Role updated. The new rights apply to every member with this role.
  • Discard puts everything back the way it was when you opened it.
  • Back to the list is ‹ Roles & Permissions at the top. If you haven’t saved yet, the page first asks Discard unsaved changes? — Keep editing stays, Discard and leave goes without saving.

Click ⋮ → Delete on the role and confirm in the window with Delete role. This can’t be undone.

A role that members still have can’t be deleted — the page tells you before anything happens:

Click Show members, give those members a different role, then delete the role.
