Issue an e-invoice (France)

You issue an e-invoice like any other invoice — with Issue or Issue & send, see Issue and send. With e-invoicing switched on and a matching customer, a few steps are added.

In France, the date of delivery or service is a mandatory mention on the invoice when it differs from the invoice date. If an e-invoice has neither a Delivery date nor a complete Service period, UNENO asks before issuing:

  • Add supply date closes the window — enter the Delivery date or the Service period under Invoice details.
  • Use invoice date issues the invoice; it then states that the date of delivery or service is the invoice date.

When you issue, UNENO checks that the e-invoice is complete. If something is missing, it is not issued: it stays a draft, and no number is used. The editor shows everything that’s missing at once:

Complete the details and issue the invoice again. What each item means:

NoticeWhat to do
Settings → Business profile: company name, full address or SIREN — managed in your accountComplete your company details in your account. The business profile shows them.
Settings → Business profile: the VAT number and the SIREN belong to different companiesCorrect the VAT number or the SIREN in your company details — a French VAT number ends with the SIREN.
Customer: name or full billing addressAdd them on the customer.
Customer: SIREN (mandatory for a French business customer)Enter the customer’s SIREN.
Customer: the VAT number and the SIREN belong to different companiesCorrect the VAT number or the SIREN on the customer.
Invoice: a payment term (required for e-invoices)Enter a Payment term (days) in the invoice.

If you issue from the invoice list, the same list appears as a message.

Two checks concern the lines’ tax rates — they block issuing too:

  • This invoice goes out as an e-invoice to a customer in France. Export delivery, intra-community supply or “not taxable in France” do not fit a domestic customer. … — check the lines’ tax rates or the customer’s country.
  • Reverse charge on an e-invoice needs the customer’s VAT ID. … — add it to the customer.

If every detail is there and the e-invoice still can’t be created, you see: The e-invoice could not be created due to a technical error. Please contact support — we have been notified. The invoice stays a draft then, too.

The invoice states its format in the list’s Format column and in the Invoice details of its overview:

Send the e-invoice as usual. The invoice’s History then reads, for example, … as Factur-X.

If the e-invoice can’t be created when sending, for technical reasons, the invoice still goes out — as a plain PDF. You then see Invoice sent — but as a plain PDF: the e-invoice could not be created due to a technical error. We have been notified., and the History reads as PDF instead of e-invoice (technical error).

  • Cancellation: if you cancel an e-invoice, the credit note is an e-invoice too — referring to the original invoice. The cancelled invoice’s page additionally offers Download cancellation as e-invoice. If you notify the customer, two files are attached: the credit note as an e-invoice and the original invoice stamped CANCELLED.
  • Recurring invoices: a schedule set to Issue or Issue & send is checked the same way. If something is missing, the invoice stays a draft and the activity log notes it.
  • Quotes are never e-invoices. If you convert a quote with Convert & send, the new invoice is checked like any other — if something is missing, nothing is converted or sent.
