Stays with the document

Chosen once, kept everywhere.

The language is stored on the document — everything that follows from it speaks the same language.

  • Cancellation invoice

Issued in the language of the invoice it reverses — with the matching text.

  • Reminders

Payment reminder and reminder, as a letter and as an email, in the invoice’s language.

  • Quote → invoice

The invoice takes over the language of the quote.

  • Recurring invoices

Every invoice of a series in the series’ language. A change applies to the next ones.

  • Email

Subject and message in the document’s language — your own versions included.

  • Archived as issued

An issued invoice is kept as a PDF in its language. Every download shows it exactly the same.

Letter-perfect

The details are right.

  • No country for a domestic address

A customer in your own country gets no country line — as in a German business letter (DIN 5008). Abroad, the country appears in the document’s language.

  • The date format stays

Every document keeps the date format it was issued with — a later change in the settings doesn’t touch it. A cancellation takes its invoice’s format.

  • Your texts survive a language switch

Switch the language and the standard opening and closing texts switch with it — a text you edited stays as you wrote it.

Your words

Your language, your customer’s language.

Work in German, bill in English

The app’s language is set per person — menus, country names and the app switcher follow it — and the document’s per document. The two never get in each other’s way.

What you write stays as written

Product names and descriptions print the way you enter them. For an English customer, simply write them in English.

FAQ

Questions about the document language

Short answers to what people ask us most.

Can I issue an invoice in English in Germany or France?

Yes. German VAT law (§ 14 UStG) does not prescribe a language for invoices; the tax office may ask for a translation (§ 87 (2) AO). French tax law accepts an invoice in a foreign language too — the tax administration may ask for a certified translation — and French stays the default for a French company. Your tax advisor can tell you what applies to your business.

What changes on the invoice with the language?

Everything UNENO writes: the title, all labels and column headers, the totals and the amount format (€2,380.00, 2.380,00 € or 2 380,00 €), the footer, country names, standard units such as “Hour”, legal notes such as the small-business note, your opening and closing texts, and the email.

How do I choose the language?

With the “Language” field in the editor of every invoice, quote and recurring invoice. A new document starts in your company country’s language — German for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, French for France and Luxembourg, English otherwise.

Are my products translated?

Product names and descriptions print the way they were entered — for an English customer, write the line in English. Standard units (hour, piece, day …) switch with the document’s language; a unit you named yourself prints as written. Labels, totals and notes are switched by UNENO.

Can I change the language later?

As long as the invoice is a draft, any time. An issued invoice keeps its language; if it has not been sent yet, “Correct” takes it back to draft.

In which language do the email and the reminders go out?

In the invoice’s language — the email’s subject and message as well as the reminder letters and reminder emails.

Can I work in German and bill in English?

Yes. Everyone sets the app’s language for themselves; the language of each document is chosen separately.

Does the e-invoice work in English too?

Yes. A ZUGFeRD or Factur-X invoice shows its PDF in the document’s language; the data inside uses standard codes that do not depend on the language.

Is the country printed in the address of a domestic customer?

No. A customer in your own country gets no country line — as in a German business letter (DIN 5008). For a customer abroad, the country is printed in the document’s language.

What happens to my edited opening text when I switch the language?

It stays as you wrote it. Only the standard opening and closing texts switch to the new language — a text you changed is never replaced.
